Rising Appalachia Live performance in the Church is up on You Tube!

Last winter we holed up in the church with the band Rising Appalachia and a bunch of their hard core fans and recorded a record, live style. It was a really cool show and the energy caught in the recording can’t be faked. There is really only one way to get live energy on a recording, and that is exactly what they did. This unique recording event was also caught on camera by the awesome Bob Judson and there is a bunch of the videos up now on the rising appalachia You Tube channel. Love Your Drums – A Tribute To Dennis Stauffer

The Ghostnote Drumbuilders’ Collective and the Sweet Relief Musicians have partnered together for a fundraiser for an education fund for Dennis’ son. For every $10 you donate you get an opportunity to win some custom drums. It’s pretty amazing to see the drum community come together like this for such a good cause. Brittney and Roan will be going to the Chicago Drum show to help draw the winners from the raffle on May 20th. See all the drums inspired by Dennis here.

SPARS event a huge success

Echo Mountain recently hosted a summit on audio production with professionals from all over the country and our backyard. We had lots of college students studying in the field attend as well as other professionals from the area and beyond. The event consisted of tours of the studios, presentations, panel discussions, and small group Q&A mentoring sessions. We were happy to share our space for such an event and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Oh yea, did I mention it sold out! Acoustic Syndicate in the Studio

For all of you Acoustic Syndicate fans from back in the Green Acres days up to now, they are back in the studio! Starting in Feb. and again this month they have been laying down some great new material here in the church studio. Joining them for this record was Grammy winning producer Stuart Lerman to help with the new effort. It might have been awhile but fans will not be disappointed with the songs and sounds on this one. With the addition of Billy Cardine to this already super group of musicians, the talent and great personalities made for a super session, and what will most definitely be splendid record.

Thank You Letter From Hall Fletcher

We really enjoy getting to work with the next generation guitar shredders, engineers and music nerds. There is one teacher we work with in particular who has his class all write thank you notes to us. The notes are sweet, sometimes hilarious, and always artist. Here’s a couple letters that we just received from the 5th grade class that just recorded a song about the constitution.

Here’s a new video from Aaron Woody Wood shot in our B Room studio. This was just a simple one camera, HD shoot, which took about two hours to set up and shoot a few songs. Just an idea for artists coming into the studio, this is a simple and affordable way to create content that you can then release over a period of time. You can see more of Flying Pig’s work here.

Each year, the submissions for Music Video Asheville get better and better. This year we’ve donated a day of studio time as a prize for one of the talented bands entered into the contest. The deadline to submit is April 6th. Winners will be selected on May 9th.

Echo Mountain Gets Write Up in The Laurel

The Laurel did a great story about the studio. Thanks to Tim Jackson and Meherdil Irani, who wrote the article and photographed the studio.

“A lot of aspects go into creating a music scene. Asheville certainly has the artistic talent to exude vibrant live music. In Echo Mountain Recording Studios, it also has a world-class facility to help capture the sounds of local and national (and sometimes international) musicians.

Tucked away quietly on Patton Avenue in downtown Asheville, the facility offers no fanfare from the outside. The main building was the original home to Asheville’s Salvation Army and later became Fletcher School of Dance. Next door is “The Church,” which is now a studio but once housed a Methodist church on South French Broad Avenue. Together these two buildings combine to create numerous recording options for musicians.

Owned by Steve Wilmans, who is also co-owner of Lexington Avenue Brewery (LAB), studio manager Jessica Tomasin says Echo Mountain maintains a family atmosphere. “Most of us have been here since the beginning,” Jessica says of the staff, which consists of engineers, Jon Ashley, Evan Bradford, and Julian Dreyer along with intern coordinator/assistant engineer Drew Thilmany and studio technician Matthew Sherwood, who also owns Sherwood’s Music just across the street from Echo Mountain.” Read rest of article here.

Secret Agent 23 Skidoo cuts another Record at EchoMountain!

Here comes another kids classic album! After months of chipping at the block, Skidoo has released another masterpiece of kid-hop from the marble. This one was a combination of live tracked bands in the API Studio and the B Room and then sculpted into beats at his home studio and in the B room. Once the bed was complete, we put on the vocals and the finishing touches and mixed the album in the B Room. Slated for release this spring this album grows up with and features MC fireworks [Skidoo's talented daughter pictured here cutting vocals in the B Room].
